Nike Blazer DQM
The Nike Blazer x DQM (Dave’s Quality Meat) is a standout collaboration that takes one of Nike’s most historic silhouettes and reworks it through the raw, playful lens of New York skate culture. Built on the classic Nike Blazer—originally a 1973 basketball shoe—the design reflects both the simplicity of the original model and the creative experimentation that defined early 2000s sneaker collaborations.
Released in 2008, the DQM project was led by Dave Ortiz and the DQM team, who are known for bringing an irreverent, deli-inspired energy to sneaker culture. Their take on the Blazer leaned into premium materials and unexpected detailing, most notably incorporating full-grain leather and safari-print suede panels that gave the shoe a rugged yet elevated texture.
The colorways varied across the collection, but all shared a common theme: bold contrasts, layered textures, and subtle branding details that felt more like design signatures than logos. Hits like mismatched tones, premium suede overlays, and clean Swoosh executions gave the sneaker a balance between loud personality and wearable simplicity.
Staying true to the Blazer’s skateboarding legacy, the shoe also carries functional roots. The vulcanized sole and durable upper made it a natural fit for skate use, while its mid-top profile maintained the timeless court aesthetic that has kept the Blazer relevant for decades.
