ASICS GT-2160 Gallery Dept. ComplexCon

$2,200.00

The ASICS GT-2160 x Gallery Dept. “ComplexCon” is a standout collaboration that turns a technical running silhouette into a wearable piece of studio art. Released as a ComplexCon exclusive in 2023, the sneaker reflects Gallery Dept.’s core philosophy of transforming everyday garments into expressive, imperfect, paint-worn artifacts.

Built on the revived ASICS GT-2160—a model inspired by early 2010s performance runners—the shoe keeps its structured, retro-tech foundation with a breathable white mesh upper, layered synthetic and leather overlays, and ASICS’ signature GEL cushioning system for comfort and impact protection.

What defines this collaboration is the chaotic yet intentional paint-splatter treatment across the upper and midsole. Bright hits of yellow, orange, blue, and black are scattered across the forefoot and midsole, while the heel is often left relatively clean—creating a visual contrast that mirrors the idea of controlled messiness found in studio-worn garments.

Designed by Josué Thomas and Gallery Dept., the concept draws directly from his studio process: sneakers and clothing naturally becoming marked by paint during creative work. Instead of hiding that wear, the design exaggerates it—turning each pair into something that feels unique, expressive, and slightly unpredictable.
